Abstract Categories
Four broad categories of proffered communications will be considered:

•  Scientific Session communications
•  Clinical Review Poster Session communications
•  Software Exhibit communications
•  Views - Opinion and Discussion communications

Scientific Session communications refer to original studies dealing with clinical applications, with preclinical topics or with basic science.

Clinical Review Poster Session communications refer to case reports and small clinical series, to clinical and pictorial reviews, and to the illustration of novel MR solutions to clinical challenges.

Software Exhibit communications refer to non-commercial software packages managing MR data. These software exhibits will be presented at a dedicated Software Exhibit area.

Views – Opinion and Discussion communications offer space for discussion of any topical issue to present views on any disputed issues, such as radiological practice (e.g. pro/contra of a 5-minute MR exam) or MR research (e.g. safety issues, research proposal for rare diseases etc.). Please note that contributions to the Views category will not be included in the ESMRMB Book of Abstracts 2017.

1. Scientific Session communications

Abstracts must be limited to 400 words (excl. references) and structured as follows:

•   Purpose/Introduction
•   Subjects and Methods
•   Results
•   Discussion/Conclusion
•   References

2. Clinical Review Poster Session communications
Abstracts must be limited to 400 words (excl. references,) and structured as follows:


•   Introduction
•   Cases
•   Discussion
•   References

3. Software Exhibit communications
Abstracts must be limited to 400 words (excl. references) and structured as follows:


•    Purpose of the software
•    Methods/Implementation
•    Features illustrated at the Exhibit

4. Views – Opinion and Discussion communications
Submissions to this category will be limited to an abstract in form of a 1-page PDF, that should be uploaded to the abstract submission system. There are no restrictions given to the structure of the abstract. Abstracts will be reviewed and rated according to the following basic points:

•    Obvious errors
•    Originality of content
•    Ethical issues
•    Commercial bias

Presentation Formats

1. Scientific Session communications

During submission, authors can choose between the following presentation formats:

•    Oral preferred – if not accepted as oral:
      traditional (paper) poster preferred
•    Oral preferred – if not accepted as oral:
      electronic poster preferred
•    Poster preferred – electronic poster preferred
•    Poster preferred – traditional (paper) poster preferred
•    Poster only – electronic poster preferred
•    Poster only – traditional (paper) poster preferred

Oral Presentations
Speakers must deliver their presentations only as power point presentations on Flashdrive (USB-Stick) to the 'Preview Centre' on-site in Barcelona.

2. Clinical Review Poster Session communications
Two presentation formats will be provided for this category of proffered communications:

•    Traditional (paper) poster
•    Electronic poster

As a submitter of a traditional paper poster you will in addition be requested to upload a PDF file of your paper poster into the ePosters database.

3. Software Exhibit communications
Presenters are expected to bring their software – on their own computer – to the desk allocated to them in the Software Exhibit area and to present it to the ESMRMB attendees during the meeting. There will be specific timeslots allocated to each presentation (Meet-the-Author slots) during which desk attendance will be mandatory.

In addition, you are requested to display a paper poster explaining your software onsite at the Software Exhibit. You will also be requested to upload your paper poster (PDF) into the ePosters database.

4. Views – Opinion and Discussion communications
A single presentation format will be provided for this category of proffered communications:

•    Traditional (paper) poster

In addition, you will also be requested to upload a PDF file of your paper poster into the ePosters database.

Posters & Poster Awards


The Barcelona Meeting will feature both, a traditional (paper) poster area, as well as electronic poster presentations. There will be specific meet-the-author timeslots allocated to each poster during which attendance of the presenter will be mandatory. All posters qualify for the “Lightning Talks” offering oral teaser for the posters presented throughout the Meeting.

Poster Awards

Both electronic and paper posters (of all abstract categories) will be reviewed by the Scientific Programme Committee and up to ten Poster Awards will be granted (1 Magna Cum Laude, 2 Cum Laude and 7 Certificates of Merit) during the Closing Ceremony and Awards Session at the end of the Meeting.

For paper posters to qualify for the poster awards a PDF of the paper poster has to be uploaded in the ePosters database by the given deadline (further information will be provided via e-mail at a later stage).

Abstract Submission Deadline

All abstracts have to be submitted electronically.

Please observe the deadline to ensure the evaluation of your submission.

Abstract withdrawal

If you decide to withdraw your abstract after the abstract submission deadline, you have to inform the ESMRMB Office in writing.
