Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping (QSM): Bascis and Beyond

Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping (QSM) is a technique to calculate maps of tissue magnetic susceptibility from the phase of the gradient-echo MRI signal. Susceptibility maps reveal clinically useful information about tissue composition including iron, myelin and calcium content. QSM was developed over a decade ago and has become a mature and rapidly growing field. Our understanding of magnetic susceptibility contributions to MRI contrast and how to model them has also recently expanded beyond QSM to encompass susceptibility tensor imaging and other microstructural effects. The aim of this course on Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping: Basics and Beyond is to cover the basic theory underpinning QSM processing pipelines as well as their practical implementation and optimisation. The course is also designed to cover emerging clinical applications of QSM and will introduce susceptibility anisotropy and microstructural effects on the MRI phase.

Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping: Basics and Beyond
This course is intended for MR physicists, basic scientists, clinicians and PhD students who already have a working knowledge of the basic principles of MRI and who wish to gain knowledge and improve their understanding of QSM and susceptibility-based MRI. Attendees will learn the basic theoretical principles of QSM and at the end of the course they will know how to implement a practical QSM reconstruction pipeline.
